The World Cup is on and boy am I struggling to care. At this point I think I’m a lost cause RE: fútbol. The players flop, the clock keeps running, they tie draw 0-0.

Part 1: Three Things That Piqued My Interest, Made Me Laugh, And/or Precipitated a Text to the Homies
Spotify Wrapped released this week, as did that website, instafest.app, which arrived on my feed several prior to Wrapped and tried to steal Spotify’s thunder. This is what I’ve been listening to:
Here’s the rub: In order to receive this musical roster I had to give a strange website - pretty much sight unseen - my Spotify credentials. And I didn’t think twice, which reminded me of that time we all voluntarily gave Russia photos of our faces to see what we’d look like as old people. But what’s a “potential counterintelligence threat” if it means I can share my music festival with my followers?
(sidebar: am I supposed to stop listening to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? It’s one thing to stop, like, watching Mel Gibson movies or whatever but am I just supposed to forget that I love and have memorized Kanye songs? What am I supposed to do when they’re in my head?)
While we’re on the subject of music, I have a new favorite song. It’s by Blur, Damon Albarn’s first band. Damon Albarn is a genius and, to the best of my knowledge, has never said anything disparaging about Jews. I’ve listened to this song probably 25 times since discovering it nine days ago:
File this under Things That Appear in a Fever Dream:
True story: I met Iain Armitage (Young Shelly) a few weeks ago on the WB lot. Very nice kid. Remember him in Big Little Lies? He was pretty good! I wonder if Adnan has seen.

Part 2: Three Things That Happened To Me, Or: Things I Did Unto The World
I saw Glass Onion and The Fabelmans. Neither of them were my favorite but both had their moments. The young actors in The Fabelmans were terrific and Spielberg is Spielberg - basically a flawless director. There was quite literally one other person in the theater, though, which might have detracted from the whole experience. (He was entirely silent until one scene which made him cackle.)
I saw two movies. That’s 2. Glass Onion was what I thought it was gonna be: fun. That’s it.
I bought a pack of toothpicks. A toothpick changes everything:
I need a haircut.

Part 3: On My Calendar This Weekend
Saturday, 5pm: Penguins vs. Blues The Penguins have turned it around a bit but this team feels lackluster. I feel sorry for Kris Letang, who had another stroke this week. And between the “retro” jerseys they wear every night to sell Christmas gifts, the empty seats, and new ownership … the whole organization feels very …. corporate. I’m worried. I also won’t be watching this game because…
Saturday, 5pm: #2 Michigan Wolverines vs. Purdue: Well how bout it? Michigan smacked Ohio State around again, this time at the Horseshoe. Fellas: take care of business in the Big 10 Championship and
I’mwe’re going to the Fiesta Bowl. (also incumbent on Georgia winning the SEC this weekend. Go Dawgs.)Sunday, 10am: Steelers @ Falcons: Kenny Pickett looked good! Did anyone see that on Monday? No? He looked good, I swear! I hope he looks good again! Look good again, Kenny! Do it! Two in a row! Two in a row!
(if he wins again the creepy phone background is coming back. iykyk)
Gene Wilder Willy Wonka Quote of the Week:
“We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams.”
Got music on the mind, I guess. Go Blue.
